Sam Clouston
Visual Art Director
Samson (Sam Clouston) is a Sydney-based artist who’s had his distinguishable characters and scenes up on street walls and canvas since 2011. He uses both spray paint and acrylics, opting for vibrant colour palettes and bold lines to create metaphorical pop-surrealist interpretations of inner city life, and he’s damn good at it. His works are symbolic portraits of individual characters reacting to the high speed and highly scrutinised lifestyle of consumerist culture in the digital age.
Having studied and worked as a graphic designer for several years, and now working as a scenic artist for film and television, Samson has developed his own set of unorthodox design and painting techniques that he now applies to his everyday art practice. He also performs around the country with Sketch the Rhyme, an improvised and fast-paced live art, rhyme and music stage show.
Samson’s works often feature enigmatic and sometimes twisted characters that are reminiscent of graffiti and lowbrow art styles, set against bright, abstract backdrops. Ever wondered who created P.Smurf’s comic book? Yep. Our boy, Samson. An integral member of the team, he’s currently working on designs for Scratches Records clothing line, building our website visually, and constantly working on our logos, graphics, and overall art direction.
